
"Russian Version of the Nutcracker Retains Imperial Beauty"
TORONTO—October 19, 2009—The classic charm and pageantry of The Nutcracker hits the stage in Toronto for its second annual performance, announced Toronto International Ballet Theatre's Artistic Director Tatiana Stepanova.
"There is something in this whimsical performance for the young and young at heart," said Stepanova. "Come and support our local and international dancers in this rare opportunity to experience the Russian Nutcracker."
The Nutcracker will be performed in the John Bassett Theatre at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for the first time on December 12 at 7:30 p.m. and December 13 at 2 p.m. The following weekend, performances will be at the Cardinal Carter Theatre on December 19 at 7 p.m. and on December 20 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices range from $35-$60.
Tchaikovsky's ethereal melodies take the audience on a fantastic journey through Clara's dreams to the land of snow and sweets. The aerial and spirited dancing is supported by enchanting tapestry with custom made costumes and set designs adorning the stage.

- Weislaw Dudek of the Staatsballett Berlin as Prince
- Bojana Nenadovic Otrin of the Slovene National Theatre Opera as Clara
Dancing at the Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts are:
- Gabor Kapin of the Carolina Ballet as Prince
- Erica Cornejo of the Boston Ballet as Clara
Tatiana Stepanova was trained at the prestigious Bolshoi Ballet Academy, which was the first company to present The Nutcracker in Moscow in 1919. She became a Prima Ballerina with the Odessa State Ballet Company and gained the status of the People's Artist of Ukraine. It is with her creative vision and polished choreography that the traditions of the Russian ballet live on.
